Rift Valley Provincial Officer PPO Levy Mwandi has assured area residents that security is well beefed up ahead of polls.
The PPO said that over 22 000 police officers have so far been deployed in different locations with a back up of anti riot officers on standby to deal with any indiscipline cases that might arise.
“So far, the campaigns have been peaceful and we hope it continues but we have police officers deployed in hot spot areas just in case of anything during the polls day,” said the PPO.
Mwandi told media in Nakuru on Saturday that wananchi were not ready to slip back to the events of 2007 elections saying every Kenyan wants peace.
He said that law breakers will be dealt with accordingly and at the same time called on the electorates to conduct themselves well during the voting exercise.
"The public ought to conduct themselves in a peaceful manner and the rule of law must be observed during this election period,” he said.
He also said that they had enlisted the support of several security formations and also sought help from other government departments to ease transportation of officers.
Mwandi said that each polling station will be manned by two armed police officers.
