POA ofices in Kisumu vandalized
09 March 2012, 10:55
Barely a few hours after its formal opening, irate youth stormed into the new Party of Action (POA) offices at Nyalenda in Kisumu, destroying and vandalizing property of unknown value, before later re-painting it to white.
The youth were up in arms claiming that the party’s presidential aspirant, Raphael Tuju had solicited them to be part of his security detail at a fee.
The then disgruntled youth claim Tuju gave out some money which never trickled down to them, hence resorting to them vandalizing the new office.
At one point during the opening of the party offices yesterday, Tuju was forced to cut short his speech due to constant calls by a section of the youth at Nyalenda who were demanding for their pay.
Shouts of ‘Tuju gonywa’ (Roughly translated to, Tuju bail us out in Luo dialect) reigned the air at Nyalenda as the youth persistently nagged Tuju for money.
Tuju however told them off insisting that, ‘my presidential campaign is not based on dishing out monies to you. You should engage in hard work and not rely on hand outs.’
Kisumu OCPD Musa Kongoli has confirmed the incident although he says the party has not yet lodged a formal complaint with the police.
Late last year when Tuju visited the lake side city for his campaigns, his motorcade was stoned at Kondele.
