PAC members should step down, says lobby group

09 March 2015, 22:22 Ken Wekesa

Mombasa - A lobby group in Mombasa has called for the resignation of Parliamentary Public Accounts Committee members over corruption allegations.

Haki Africa executive director, Hussein Khalid said PAC members should step down to enable investigation surrounding the matter to be resolved and a new team formed.

“We call for the immediate resignation of the chairperson of PAC and all its 25 members. We as Kenyans have lost faith in PAC as it’s currently constituted,” said Hussein.

Hussein said the current issues surrounding the PAC had gone against article six of the Kenya constitution on integrity issues.

He accused the chairman of the committee, Ababu Namwamba of playing politics and remaining in position despite overwhelming reasons for them to step aside.

The embattled PAC chair might also loose secretary general position in ODM as a group of ODM MPs are planning to kick him out following allegation that he recorded a private conversation between him and ODM party leader, Raila Odinga.

However, the national assembly will kickstart its investigation into the alleged corruption allegations in PAC.

Earlier, Ababu narrowly survived a no confidence motion to oust him as the PAC chairperson.
