Nairobi - Eliud Owalo declared his interest in vying for the Kibra parliamentary seat come 2017 on Monday.
Owalo, the former aide to Cord leader Raila Odinga made the announcement at Kamkunji Grounds in Kibra during a Harambee to raise funds to meet funeral expenses for Thomas Luseno and Dorcas Luseno, who both passed on in Nairobi last week.
He stated that in his considered opinion the weakest link within the opposition is its’ performance in the National Assembly, and he has therefore decided to come in as an agent of necessity to help Cord pursue an appropriate legislative agenda in Parliament in line with the ideology of social democracy.
He expressed displeasure at the fact that a large number of the current Cord MPs and senators have failed to effectively execute their mandate but chosen to go to bed with the ruling elite.
Owalo appealed to opposition supporters to take stock of the performance of all current elected leaders and vote out all those who have either underperformed or betrayed the cause of the opposition.
“I have also been touched by the plight of the Kibra people. I have a dream and strategic intent to facilitate the alleviation of the challenges that they face, including but not limited to insecurity, housing, roads, water and sanitation,” he said.
He accused the Jubilee government of misrule and non-performance, asserting that the government is not only riddled with corruption and nepotism but it has also failed to address widespread insecurity, rising cost of living and spiraling unemployment levels.

He stated that as a warm-up for the next elections, Kenyans should actively participate
in the forthcoming referendum to register their unequivocal support against bad
Owalo dismissed the latest attempts by the government to rein in on corruption as a mere public relations exercise that will not yield any tangible results, noting that those who have so far been forced to step aside are mere sacrificial lamps but not the real beneficiaries of the corruption largesse.
He appealed to the youth and women to acquire identity cards in massive numbers in readiness to register as voters ahead of the next elections, noting that opposition supporters must also turn out in large numbers to vote at the next polls to ensure that the Jubilee government is sent parking.
He urged other progressive forces that are currently within the ruling establishment to pull out of the Jubilee alliance when the window of opportunity is still open and join forces with Cord in the march towards the third and final liberation of the country for the benefit of the Kenyan people.
