Othaya construction workers on strike

Over 400 road construction workers of Put Sarajevo Road Construction Company in Othaya have gone on strike over payments amounting to KES 10 million.
The workers who were waving twigs and placards staged demonstrations Thursday morning at Ruruguti site saying that the company has refused to pay them March payments and other arrears.
They complained that they have loans to pay, school fees to clear and rents to clear yet the company have refused to pay them on time.
Police had a rough time controlling the workers who attempted to block roads in the area.
One of the workers Dominic Nyaga who is also the shop steward added that the company has also not submitted the NHIF and NSSF payments amounting to millions of shillings.
They are wondering why the company is not paying them when President Kibaki has retired.
The company's site engineer Martin Kitavi blamed the government for not paying the company payments amounting to Sh 1 billion since October last year adding that the default has delayed in paying of workers.
