Othaya man kills his father over cigarettes

Police in Othaya have arrested a 28-year-old man for allegedly killing his 70-year-old father over money for cigarettes.
The suspect Abraham Githeki was picked by police at Ihuririo village in Nyeri County yesterday few hours after he severally hit his father, Joseph Mubea with ahuge rock after he allegedly refused to part with some few coins to purchase cigarette.
Shocked villagers jammed at the home after the news spread around the village that Githeki allegedly waited for his mother to go to the local church before he turned violent during the midday Sunday incident.
The old man was found lying in a pool of blood.
Area police boss Adiel Nyange who was the first to arrive at the scene said the man will soon be arraigned in court after investigations are complete.
“He has confessed to the police that he indeed killed his father. Investigations have started,” said the police boss.
He said the man had admitted having killed his father.
Area residents said the man might have acted under the influence of bhang.
The body of the octogenarian was removed to Mukurwe-ini District Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.
