Orengo has always supported Raila and will continue to do so

27 January 2014, 17:10 Victor Tinto

Nairobi - Siaya senator James Orengo insists he has no reason to differ with ODM party leader Raila Odinga, saying he has always supported the former Prime Minister.

There have been rumours of Orengo's purported displeasure with Raila leading to his decision not to contest any position at the upcoming party polls.

Orengo though has dismissed the notion that he and Raila have a tiff and clarified his support for Odinga's leadership of the Orange party as well as his reasons for not contesting any post in the elections.

" Anyone trying to make up that me and Raila have problems is just being mischievous, he said in a press conference Sunday.

" I have always been on Raila's side in good and in bad and that will not change despite the fact that I choose not to run for any post in the party elections.

His decision not to contest the polls has added to the number of top brass officials taking a break from active party leadership, with the likes of Anyang Nyongo, Henry Kosgey, Franklin Bett and now Orengo all stepping aside.

" The party is heading in a new direction. I will not be a part of the leadership but will play an active role as a member of the party.

His decision no to vie for the Secretary General's position followed a plea by Nyanza MP's to have the post remain in the region.

Over ten MP's all from the region say that the position should remain a Nyanza preserve seeing as the party's die hard supporters all come from the region.
