Kenya is fast becoming a technology driven economy.
The government has laid down ambitious flagship projects like the Konza Techcity project skewed towards moving the country away from an agricultural driven economy to an information technology driven economy.
One of the areas that is undergoing extreme makeover due to the technology surge is the way we do shopping. Nowadays it is possible to order for goods from the comfort of your office or house or anywhere else, pay for them and have them delivered to you as opposed to the orthodox method of visiting the market in person.
This has been hugely boosted by the innovation of many Kenyans and corporates.
A case in point is the mobile money transfer service which is offered by all the mobile operators which provides a platform through which payments are made.
Online shopping has many advantages such as being cost effective, a consumer can order for anything even from foreign countries, it saves one time which could have been spent going to the market personally, enables organizations to reach a wider market base, among others.
However, one of the major issues that has been raised concerning e-shopping is security because of the presence of hackers, internet fraudsters who may run an illegitimate e-shopping site and the delivery time of the products ordered.
All in all online shopping is a technology which when harnessed can be very efficient for both the consumer and the seller. There are currently a number of online shopping sites which are recognized internationally such as Amazon, e-bay, among others.
Locally we have sites such as Dealfish, Mocality, Rupu. Some of them even offer discounts on selected items every day.
Therefore, next time you shop why not think of going hi-tech.
