Nakuru - One person was seriously injured on Tuesday evening after a petroleum truck lost control and overturned at Kunste trading center along the Nakuru - Nairobi Highway.
According to an eyewitness, Jackson Mutinda, the truck driver was speeding at the time of the accident.
He added that the driver attempted to avoid a road bump before veering into a roadside ditch.
“This truck was headed to Nakuru town when the driver hit emergency breaks as he tried to avoid a bump on the road and that’s when it overturned,” he said.
The truck driver, who was the only passenger on board, was rushed to Nakuru Provincial General Hospital after sustaining some injuries on his head.
Traffic police from Central Police Station had difficult time controlling members of the public who had arrived at the scene of the accident hoping to siphon the petrol off the truck.
Despite efforts by fire fighters to splash water on the spilt petroleum, local residents still attempted to complete their mission of siphoning the fuel.
The truck was later towed to Nakuru Central Police station.
