One dies, many injured in Lang'ata Road accident

29 June 2015, 15:05 Victor Tinto

Nairobi - One person died on the spot while several others were seriously injured after a matatu lost control and crashed along Nairobi's Lang'ata Road.

The accident took place just after 12.30 PM Monday when a matatu from Ongata Rongai headed to the Central Business District lost control at a corner and rolled, landing on its side.

One person was confirmed dead in the accident with many of the passengers in the mini-bus belonging to Serian Sacco injured.

The injured were rushed to various hospitals in the area and others to the Kenyatta National Hospital

" The driver lost control when he turned the corner. He was driving too quickly and could not control it past the turn at the Kanisani stage," Paul Njuguna who witnessed the accident told News24.

Initial reports stated that four persons were critically injured, with more than 20 suffering minor injuries in the accident.

The accident caused a huge traffic snarl up on the usually bus road as the mini-bus covered the whole road heading to the city.

This is the second accident caused by Rongai Matatus in less than a week, with one person also being killed last week in an accident close to the Banda School on Magadi Road when two matatus were involved in a head on collision.
