Nakuru - A middle aged man died on the spot after a personal car he was driving collided head on with an oncoming passenger bus near Nakuru Teacher College few metres from Salgaa trading centre along the Nakuru Eldoret highway.
In the Tuesday afternoon incident, the small car was destined for Eldoret before it lost track of its lane before colliding head on with the Nairobi bound Crow Bus leading to the death of the driver.
“I was from Mumias headed for Nairobi with 40 passengers and was on my right lane. I saw the small Toyota NZE comes towards my lane and I tried to brake but we finally collided head on. The driver died on the spot and his passenger sustained serious injuries but he could manage to speak,” said Bernard Otieno, the bus driver.
He says the driver might have been over speeding as he would not be in a position to control the car.
Three of the bus passengers sustained minor injuries, with the small car passenger receiving treatment at Molo District hospital. The two vehicles were towed to Salgaa patrol base awaiting inspection.
Salgaa base commander Alex Mumo cautioned the drivers especially those plying the Nakuru-Salgaa-Kibunja highway to be extra careful owing to the notoriety of the black spots that have led to loss of thousands of lives.
The incident comes merely less than a day after another accident claimed one life, three sustaining injuries after a pickup car ferrying two cows collided head on with a oncoming vehicle along the Nakuru-Njoro highway.
