Nakuru - One person died on the spot and four others seriously injured after two vehicles collided head on along the Nakuru-Njoro highway near the Rift Valley Institute of Science ad Technology (RVIST) Monday evening.
The grisly incident involved a pick-up vehicle that was ferrying two cows and a personal vehicle destined for Nakuru.
Confirming the incident, Rift Valley Provincial Traffic Enforcement Officer (PTEO) Mary Omari said the accident might have been caused by reckless speeding and overtaking.
“One person aboard the pick-up died on the spot and the four who sustained injuries were taken to the Nakuru Rift Valley Provincial Hospital for treatment,” said Omari.
The two cows survived the accident and were tethered beside the road as good Samaritans rushed to rescue the injured.
The two wrecked vehicles were towed to the Nakuru Police Station awaiting inspection and the body of deceased taken to the county’s mortuary.
Omari cautioned drivers to be vigilant while using the roads especially as schools close down for the August holiday.
