Nairobi - Philip Okundi has unveiled his new party and says he will give the Orange Democratic Movement ODM a run for its money in the upcoming Senatorial by elections in Homa Bay.
Okundi has joined the Maendeleo Democratic Party after quitting ODM last week following the contentious picking of Moses Kajwang as aspirant for the Homa Bay elections.
He termed the move to pick Kajwang undemocratic and promised to push them all the way from his new front.
Admittedly, he says he would have stayed in ODM had the nomination process been fair but has no regrets in moving out of the party.
" After serious and wide consultations and the intense pressure from the
electorate and leaders in Homa Bay County I have decided to honour their
wishes for the betterment of our county,".
" It is important
to note that it is their democratic right, as enshrined in the
constitution, to participate and elect a person of their choice," he added of the elections.
Okundi will compete alongside Kajwang and United Democratic Movement's UDM contestant Silas Ouko Jakakimba.
