A 52-year old man attached to agricultural office in Igembe south district died on the spot after he lost control of the motorcycle that he was riding and hit a tree.
According to the deputy police boss Joseph Chebii who confirmed the accident on behalf of his boss, the man who was later identified as Lawrence Mwinyi was returning from the field riding a GK motorcycle when he faced the ordeal.
Chebii said that the police officers were informed about the accident by the members of public who called his office with information that a man was lying on the road seriously injured after an accident.
It was after that call that the police officers visited the scene of the accident, along Meru - Maua road at a place called Kariene.
Consequently, he sustained serious injuries on his forehead which he later succumbed to.
Chebii also confirmed that no other party was involved in the accident.
“This was a self involving accident as no one caused the man to get into this accident,” he said.
However, according to eye witnesses, the man was drunk and was also over speeding.
They also added that he was evading a police road block knowing that he was drunk and could get into problems with the officers thus causing the accident.
Police denied these claims saying that he was never drunk and that he was coming from a field operation as they are always used to.
The body was taken to Maua Methodist hospital where it is awaiting a postmortem.
