Nairobi - A number of major roads in Nairobi will be closed Friday ahead of US President Barrack Obama's visit to the country.
Obama arrives Friday 24 July between 7 PM to 9 PM but it has been announced that major roads leading to the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport JKIA will be closed far earlier as a result.
Among the roads to be closed include Mombasa Road, Uhuru Highway and Waiyaki Way on Friday.
Thika Road, Limuru Road and Waiyaki Way will also be closed on Saturday when the president will be attending the Global Entrepreneurship Summit at the UN headquarters in Gigiri, Kibue said.
According to Nairobi County Police Chief Benson Kibue, the roads will be closed on Friday from 2 PM until late, while on Saturday, the mentioned roads will also not be available for use.
" We advise motorists to use alternative routes and by passes during that period of time," Kibue said Wednesday in Nairobi.
The move will doubtless cause traffic havoc for a city that is already choked hard with traffic and will be of huge inconvenience to motorists.
Obama will arrive Friday 24 July and leave Sunday 26 July after his visit.
He will be in the country to open the 6th Global Entrepreneurship Summit GES which will be held at the United Nations Compound in Gigiri Nairobi.
