ODM to welcome Jubilee defectors to party

Nairobi - The Orange Democratic Movement ODM has said it will allow defectors from different parties join it as it prepares for the 2017 General Elections.
" We have resolved to declare a blanket amnesty for all former members who
may have left the party for one reason or other. You are all welcome
back home to fully participate in the party elections and activities," Secretary General Ababu Namwamba told supporters Wednesday.
ODM had pondered as to whether it would allow such members to return to the party in the past, with those against the move terming it necessary to weed out members who are not loyal.
Ababu though, stated that it would be necessary so as to allow the party heal and maximize on its membership numbers.
" It is important to allow members get their place in the party back if possible, so that they can build numbers, which is very important to us," he added.
He also stated that there was not conflict at all in agreeing to the proposals.
" We are sorry to disappoint those who expected a bloodbath over this
matter. We will go by provisions of the party’s Election and Nomination
Rules Section 8 (d),”, he added.
ODM is already in the process of holding its grassroots elections. be held between August 20 and September 2 in Marsabit, Wajir, Kajiado,
Migori, Kilifi and Vihiga counties while in Nairobi County, the exercise
will be held from September 5 to 8.
There had been controversy in the Kajiado Central by elections after the eventual winner Memusi Kanchori joined the party after missing out on the National Alliance Party ticket, a move that was in the first place rejected by party members.
