ODM offices locked over rent arrears
02 May 2013, 13:36
Gem ODM sub branch officials have been evicted from their office for failing to pay rent amounting to KES 20 000.
According to the Party’s organizing secretary Lyn Ongwen, they were forced out of the office by the proprietor even after pleading for a grace period to find money to clear the outstanding balance.
They had not paid rent for four months.
“We have been paying KES 5 000 monthly for rent but things have not been easy for us for the last four months hence the current mess,” Ongwen said.
The officials have now been forced to transact party business from makeshift structures as they await further information from the national office.
Ongwen said efforts to get assistance from elected ODM officials from the constituency have been fruitless as most of them were non committal.
