Nairobi - Orange Democratic Movement ODM leaders are not corrupt, Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho says.
The Mombasa Governor spoke right after attending a summon by the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commision EACC on his involvement in the alleged irregular allocation of a market belonging to the Mombasa County Council.
Joho said that he was clean and that the said piece of land was dealt with by the then Mombasa City Council in 1996.
Joho is accused of illegal allocation of Mwembe Tayari market to a private
investor, allegations he denied on Tuesday after three hours of grilling
by EACC detectives.
He said that he felt the EACC process was a mode of targeting very innocent ODM leaders.
" The allegations are baseless and I have told the EACC so. The market was not handled by my government and it is recorded, he said Tuesday.
" There is no corruption in ODM. We have a zero tolerance policy and we are proud to state that we do not accept not do we proclaim corruption at all, he added.
Joho was flanked by several ODM legislators and a number of supporters.
He is the second ODM Governor to be summoned by the EACC, after his Nairobi counterpart Evans Kidero.
