ODM faces test in the wake of Kidero comments

Nairobi - Nairobi governor Evans Kidero has stood by his choice to support non- ODM candidates in soon to be by elections.
Kidero declared his support for Migori Governor Okoth Obado (PDP) and Jared Okelo (Ford-Kenya) if both Migori and Nyando Constituency does go to the polls.
The two are awaiting court clearance before by-elections take place.
Senior ODM officials led by Homa Bay senator Otieno Kajwang have urged Kidero to step aside if he feels he does not want to support the party and its aspirants.
But in a rejoinder, the governor says that he does not feel the urge to argue over issues of democracy and personal choice.
" I think that everyone is democratically entitled to a choice, he said.
The choice by Kidero has caused a rift in the party with some saying he should tow the party line and other stating that it is his choice to move in the direction he wants.
He did get some support from a group of Nyanza politicians who instead called on Kajwang to leave the party.
" Kidero has done the party proud with his work in Nairobi. What has Kajwang done for the party and his people? the leaders led by businessman Erick Okeyo said.
The matter is set to be determined in a few weeks time with the arrival of party leader Raila Odinga from the United States on a month long trip.
Current party leader Prof. Anyang Nyong'o is yet to comment on the matter which observers say will test the orange party to the limit.
