ODM aspirants exchange blows

There was drama at a local bar in Ahero Town yester-night after two aspirants who are vying for the Ahero ward representative post in Nyando District, Kisumu County, went physical to settle their political differences.
Normalcy was interrupted at the Jesmic Bar as the duo went for each other's neck and traded insults in the full glare of members of the public.
The brawl started at around 9 Pm when the duo; John Opiyo popularly known as 'Thunder' and Ken Ooko both of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party and who hail from the same location opted to exchange blows in a public place.
Trouble started when one of the supporters of 'Thunder' cracked a joke that Ken had very few supporters and so was a political light weight.
The supporter further told Ken that his was a futile mission as he would never be elected anywhere come rain or sunshine.
Infuriated Ken picked up a fight with ‘Thunder’ accusing him of running a campaign based on character assassination and not restraining his supporters from spewing insults.
In the ensuing battle, property of unknown value was destroyed as both sides went for each other's throats.
It took the intervention of members of the public for the fight to end.
The matter was later presented before the local ODM elders in the hope that they would tackle it comprehensively.
Although Opiyo was reported to have pleaded that they should put the service and interest of ODM first, Ken could hear none of this.
A local ODM elder Tom Odera tried to persuade them to exercise maturity in tackling their differences, but his calls fell on deaf ears.
Odera also cautioned ODM Kakola Location Chairman, Otieno Kuga to refrain from taking sides in such political altercation so as to facilitate the healing process.
With no consensus being struck by the two aspirants, the elders have now requested the ODM headquarters in Nairobi to intervene and end the animosity that could tear the party a part.
