Nairobi - ODM MP Nicholas Gumbo has no regrets in getting rid of Monica Juma and has warned other government officials to respect elected leaders or face the same fate.
Gumbo says that he was among the 163 MPs who voted to shoot down Juma's nomination as Secretary to the Cabinet saying that the stance taken by the Interior Cabinet Secretary in denying MPs a chance to visit her office was an insult to elected leaders and Kenyans.
" We need respect to prevail and there was none as far as Juma was concerned. She needed to go," Gumbo told News24 on phone.
Gumbo, who is the MP for Rarieda and the recently elected chairman of the Parliamentary Public Accounts Committee PAC, says that there will also be no hesitation in dealing with others who act in the same manner as Juma.
" We need them to understand that there is a big difference between elected officials and appointed ones. We will not tolerate anyone who stands in the way of Kenyans by frustrating elected officials," he added.
Juma was Thursday denied the chance to become the new Secretary to the Cabinet after MPs voted 163 to 55 to have her nomination by President Uhuru Kenyatta withdrawn.
MPs accuse Juma of arrogance and disrespect after she wrote a letter to the Clerks of the National Assembly asking MPs not to show up at her office to make demands over various issues.
It has now emerged that Juma denied MPs several favours which are approved by her office thus the anger with which MPs reacted to her nomination.
