Nzoia FC beat G FC to climb 3rd position in KPL qualifier

02 September 2013, 14:32 Samuel Kisika

Bungoma - Nzoia FC beat G FC from Eldoret two goal against one in a tough match in their Group B Nationwide KPL qualifier matches held at Nzoia play-ground on Sunday.

The two teams were eying the three points at the start of the game for either G FC to move to the second position held by Nakuru All Stars in a tie points of 31 points with West Kenya FC or Nzoia to climb the third position against their opponents.

Addressing the press after the match, Yussuf Chipo, the Nzoia coach said that they were very nervous to garner the three points to move up to the third position of Group B so that they can be in the safe position of the league.

"We came in the game a little bit nervous that we have to get the three points and I am happy because we've attained the points we had been fighting for," said Chipo.

Chipo said that by gaining the three points ganering them 29 points against their rivals, G FC now having 27 points, the team is in the right position to do even much better, especially when they play with Tim Sales FC next weekend at Elbagon in Nakuru.

Joshua Opara, the G FC coach blamed his defense players for poor concentration during the match despite having high hopes of winning the three points at the beginning of the game.

"My boys have played well creating many chances of underutilized scoring although the defense showed much laxity in concentration leading to the defeat," said Opara.

"Despite losing two consecutive games I am optimistic that the team will still do much better now that we have seven matches at hand before the climax of the league,"added Opara.

Mahero Valen number 17 gave Nzioa FC the first goal in the 9th minute, then G FC's Juma Peter number 2 equalized in the 52nd minute drawing their opponent's high chances of winning the match to the drawing-board but Gatu Geoffrey rescued them with the second goal in the 65th minute. However G FC second goal for equalizing in the 61st minute by Otieno Elly was rejected for delayed restart making the game end in Nzioa's 2-1 win.

The Nationwide KPL matches are categorized in two Groups of the league: Group A involves teams from Nairobi to Mombasa while Group B are teams from Nakuru to Western region.
