Fred Kwanusu of Ford-Kenya defeated Reuben Mudangala allied to New Ford-Kenya during polls to elect chairman of Nzoia county council.
Kwanusu on Trade Minister Moses Wetangula’s camp polled 21 votes against Mudangala, a close political ally of Justice Minister Eugene Wamalwa.
Councilor Andrew Kutitila of Sikhendu Ward failed to take part in the elections after he was hijacked by unmasked and armed people on his way to Kitale from Eldoret.
Kutitila was being driven on his car when another car blocked the road and some three armed with a pistol ordered him out.
“The car block us near Moi’s Bridge and three men alighted and ordered me out of my car at gun point and demanding that I obey their order or risk my life,’ Kutitila told the Press at Nzoia.
The councilor was driven to unknown place and was set free tow hours later without being robbed anything.
“They told me some people were against his candidature for the chairmanship and that I should not participate in the polls,” said the civic leader.
Councilors allied to Eldoret North MP William Ruto’s United Republic Party led by Philip Sakong supported Kwanusu.
The elections were called to replace former chairman Samson Bunyasia who passed on last April.
Kiminini parliamentary aspirant Chris Wamalwa condemned the abduction of councilor Kutitila.
