Nyeri - An elderly man has been sentenced to life imprisonment by a Nanyuki court for defiling a three-year-old girl.
Joseph Tesinik Sekel is alleged to have defiled the minor on June 23, 2014 at Ngobit trading centre, Laikipia County.
The girl’s mother in her evidence told the court that she had gone to work at a nearby hotel, leaving the minor with her seven-year-old sister when the incident happened.
“My boss gave me permission to take tea to my children. I found the eldest girl alone in the house eating a cake. I asked her where the younger one was and she informed me that she had been taken by the accused who later gave them money to buy cakes,” the mother narrated.

The minor also testified in court where she narrated that the convict found her outside their rental house and ordered her to follow him to his room where he committed the crime.
She was rushed to a local dispensary for treatment before the matter was reported at Ngobit police station.
While issuing the judgment, Chief Magistrate Wanjiku Cherere faulted the convict’s defense who alleged that the charges leveled against him were framed by the minor’s mother.
The court said he had been positively identified by the victim.
In mitigation, he prayed for leniency claiming that he is the bread winner for his extended family.
