Nyeri - The County government of Nyeri has termed as erroneous a report released by the National Treasury last month indicating that they are not utilizing well the funds disbursed by the national government.
The executive committee member in charge of Finance, Martin Wamwea, dismissed the report arguing that he was not aware of the funds disbursed by the national government.
He said his County’s account received KES 300 million on September 17 prior to the release of the report.
He however confirmed that there was funds which could not be utilized due to the conditions imposed and can only be approved by the controller of budgets.
According to the report, Nyeri was the leading County with unutilized funds.
The County had not utilized KES 782,931,858, monies disbursed by the national government and some acquired through their own revenue collections.
The report further indicated that Nyeri County received KES 618,171,676 but had only utilized KES 164,760,182 with Wamwea saying the figures were faulty.
“Such money has never been released to Nyeri and it is a fact since they did not appear in our operations accounts,” said the executive during an interview in his office.
