Nairobi - Nyeri governor Nderitu Gachagua is ill and hospitalized outside the country where he is receiving treatment, it has emerged.
Gachagua is said to have fallen ill in December last year and has been in and out of hospitals both in Kenya and abroad over the undisclosed disease.
The illness reports have been confirmed by his Deputy Samuel Wamathai, several MCAs and some political leaders.
" The governor is out of the country for medical tests, said Wamathai who has been representing the governor in official events recently.
Wamathai has been representing Gachagua in a number of major events including the reception of a mobile clinic donated by First Lady Margaret Kenyatta recently.
The deputy governor and Gachagua’s wife, Margaret Karungaru received the mobile clinic from the First Lady with Wamathai proceeding to read the Governor’s speech.
MCAs on Sunday at a political rally asked residents to pray for the governor whom they said was sick and needed moral support.
" We wish our governor quick recovery so that he can come back to office and serve people of Nyeri," said a group of Jubilee Alliance Party (JAP) leaders.
The governor’s close allies and the County executive arm have however remained mum over the matter.
Gachagua’s prolonged absence has caused panic in the County with residents demanding the authorities and family clear the air to avoid speculation.
