Nyeri - A farmer in Tetu district who allegedly attempted to defile a 15-year-old girl was charged in Court on Monday at a Nyeri court before acting Senior Principal Magistrate Christine Wekesa.
Charles Ndung’u Nderitu, 25, is charged with the attempted defilement contrary to Sexual Offences Act of 2006.
He is accused that on June 7, 2013 at Mathakwa-ini village in Tetu sub-county, he intentionally and unlawfully attempted to engage in sexual intercourse with a minor.
He is secondly charged with assault causing bodily harm. The court heard that the accused assaulted the minor thereby causing her bodily harm during the incident.
He however denied the two counts and the prosecutor, Inspector Peter Wahome, listed three witnesses including the minor to affirm the charges.
The court initially heard that the Form two-student was on her way to school when she met the accused person along the road.
He forcefully pushed her to the ground and attempted to defile her but she resisted and screamed.
She ran away to a nearby homestead and upon informing them about the incident, the residents raised alarm leading to an arrest of the accused person.
The accused person is remanded at King’ong’o GK prison as the case continues with the prosecution expected to provide evidence in the matter including a medical report.
