Nyeri Al Shabaab suspect nabbed while crossing over to Ethiopia

30 June 2015, 18:53 Joseph Njung'eh

Nyeri - A 21-year-old man from Nyeri County has been arrested at the border town of Moyale in Marsabit County on suspicion that he is a member of the Al Shabaab terror group.

Marsabit County Police Commander, Bernard Kogo said the suspect, identified as Alex Kimaru alias Warunguru and who has been on the police radar was seized at around 7am in a lodging as he was preparing to cross over to Somalia through Ethiopia.

Kogo said police have also intensified a manhunt for his five accomplices from Tetu constituency, Nyeri County.

He said that detectives have been on the suspect’s trail for the last one week.

He added that the suspect is being interrogated at Moyale police station to establish his mission in the area besides assisting police with tracing his accomplices.

“We have been looking for six suspected Al Shabaab recruits from Tetu in Nyeri County since last week after they were said to have come to Moyale town,” said Kogo and appealed to residents to be alert over the other suspects who are still at large.

He further asked operators of hotels, lodgings and public service transport vehicles to be vigilant and ensure that details of all customers are known to the management.
