Nyakach Member of Parliament, Pollyns Ochieng Daima has disclosed that he will be suing a leading media house for KES 50million compensation in damages, owing to what he terms as defamation statements contained in former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga's aide Miguna Miguna's book titled "Peeling back the Mask" which was serialized by the media house.
Ochieng divulged that he will not let Miguna off the hook for his ‘reckless statements’ and any attempt to portray him negatively before his electorate, fellow legislators and the country as a whole.
"I went to school and any attempts to state otherwise in the hope of damaging my character, reputation and standing in the society can not be taken lightly", he warned.
Responding to questions by reporters who sought to know what would be his next step now that Miguna will be visiting Kisumu County on Thursday 23rd August to market his book, the Nyakach MP said it was unfortunate and rather callous for the Nation Media Group to go full throttle and start serializing Miguna's book without taking into consideration what consequences it would have on other peoples' lives.
He argued that Miguna's remarks were quite annoying, but it was imperative to him as a leader and representative of the people to react in a sober manner by letting the law take its course.
Early last week, the MP moved to court and sued Miguna over his controversial book saying in the book, Miguna made references to him describing him in a defamatory way.
He said the words used by Miguna to describe him as an MP portrayed him as an unworthy, a person of no integrity and inadequate intellectually.
