No strings attached to Obama’s goody bag to Kenya

27 July 2015, 11:15 Dennis Omido

Nairobi - Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary, Amina Mohamed has said the US President Barack Obama's promises to Kenya did not come with any conditions.

Amina said Kenya and US have been strategic partners in various projects, and this will go on to strengthen diplomatic ties between the two countries.

"There were no conditions on the promises President Obama made to Kenya. US sees Kenya as an equal partner and that is why he offered to help us grow," Amina said.

She said the US had pledged to work with the Kenyan government to ensure that the economy grows and also focus on various infrastructure projects.

"He promised to support Kenya in the wars against terror and violent extremism, which is a global challenge," Amina said.

According to her, the US will provide resources and equipment to Kenya as it fights terrorism. The two countries will also share intelligence reports on terror, with the US also helping Kenya in providing border security.

Obama announced a basketful of promises to Kenya during a joint press conference with President Uhuru kenyatta after their talks at State House in Nairobi on Saturday.
