No reprieve for Westgate quartet
04 December 2013, 12:32
Nairobi - Hussein Adan Hassan, Adnan Issah Ibrahim, Mohammed Ahmed Abdi and Liban Shirfan Abdullah were all denied bail by the Nairobi chief magistrate, citing security concerns.
The prosecution's insistence that the suspects posed a major security threat and were a danger to the public were rubber-stamped by magistrate Waweru Kiarie Wednesday morning.
The four who have been in custody since October, have pleaded not guilty to causing death and grievous harm in the terror attack that claimed over 60 lives.
Families of the accused in court however complained of the mistreatment of the group, saying that they had been subjected to torture and denied basic amenities.
Disi Islam a brother to one of the accused said that they have been mistreated by police and asked for action to be taken to ensure they are in the best hands.
The case will be heard again on December 18, 2013.
