Nairobi - Newly appointed Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery says he is still a member of the Orange Democratic Movement ODM despite his appointment as Interior Cabinet Secretary by president Uhuru Kenyatta.
Nkaisssery, the Kajiado Central member of parliament was appointed Tuesday by the president, following the sacking of Interior CS Joseph Ole Lenku who failed to stave off the threat of terrorism in the country.
And that is despite his ODM affiliation.
Nkaissery, a retired army general, when questioned on his appointment said he would consider it but only after consultation with his people and party leaders.
" I am still in ODM. That does not change even one bit, he said of his appointment.
" I will speak to my people and consult the party on this appointment. I am honoured to be considered but they have to help me make a decision for the benefit of the people I represent and the party I am a part of, he added.
Nkaissery will be tasked with repelling terrorists who have wrecked havoc in the country in recent years. The killing of 32 people in Mandera Monday night brought to 60, those killed in terrorist acts in northern Kenya in just the past week.
