The race for the senate seat in Meru County has taken a dramatic twist after the respected Ameru Njuri Ncheke Council of Elders endorsed the former Education Assistant Minister Adams Karauri for the office against the Energy Minister Kiraitu Murungi.
The respected Council of elders, at the weekend said that they will support and campaign for the former MP owing to his political experience and leadership qualities when he was an Assistance Minister and an MP.
Led by the Regional Njuri Ncheke Chairman Stephen Thikii, the elders said they understand the former Tigania Member of Parliament well noting he has never been implicated in any scandal during his political career.
‘We support him to go for the race. Let him battle it out with Energy Minister Kiraitu Murungi,’ said Thikii.
The Council of Elders, who gathered at Rwerea Shrines in Tigania East Constituency during a graduation ceremony to initiate Karauri as a full member of the council, lamented that the Meru community will only vote for a clean and a developmental minded leader who is ready to deliver to the people.
‘The past trend of voting for leaders because they have fat wallets it now gone, people want a leader who can deliver to them despite his or her financial or political position status,’ said Thikii.
The Council of Elders from Tigania East and West constituencies also sympathized with the former Head of Public Service Francis Muthaura who will have to face full trial at the ICC saying Muthaura is a respected Njuri Ncheke elder and they are sure he will come out clean.
‘I personally feel it for Muthaura, we know him as a very humble man and a leader who is dedicated to his work for the sake of people we pray for him that he will come out innocent,' added Karauri.
