02 August 2013, 12:06
A night guard was found murdered and his badly mutilated body dumped on a roadside near Kagio town in Kirinyaga County.
Confirming the incident, Mwea west OCPD Paul Odede said the guard had deep panga cuts on the head, back and chest.
He said that a bar which he was guarding was broken into and a music system together with KES 4 000 cash stolen.
Attacked by people he knew
He said that preliminary investigations reveal that the guard, identified as Muturi Njagi, 45, must have been attacked by people he knew.
Speaking on phone, Odede said that police are yet to arrest any suspect.
He said that scenes of crime officers have dusted the body and his place of work as investigations commence saying that he hopes that they will apprehend the suspects soon.
Odede said that police want to establish whether the incident was just a normal criminal activity or it involved more issues.
He also noted that the police have recorded statements with another guard manning neighbouring businesses so they can shed light on what exactly transpired.
Murder cases have increased in the recent past in Kagio town with a prominent business man who was killed last month being the most recent case.
The business man was kidnapped and later killed as he waited for someone to open his gate. The body was later removed to Kibugi funeral home for postmortem.
Arrests of the suspects in the previous cases are yet to be made with police terming the incidents as disturbing.
