Nigerian citizen arrested with heroin

27 March 2013, 12:31 Rodgers Buluma

War against drugs in Mombasa has seen a Nigerian citizen appear before the Mombasa law courts charged with being in possession of illegal drugs.

Anthony Aruthee alias Ogaa appeared before Justice Stephen Lwechi to answer claims of being in possession of 300 grams of Heroin.

Reports said that the accused was arrested on Sunday the March 24th 2013, in a room at the luxurious Nyali estates.

The accused denied the charges against him and the attempts for him to be released on bond were not fruitful.

He is being held at Shimo la Tewa as he awaits the hearing of his case that is set for May 17th this year.

Consequently, two suspected drug barons were arraigned in court after they were arrested at the Royal Apartments in Bamburi in a massive hunt for drug dealers conducted on Sunday 24th march.

The two, Ahmed Ali and Dorothy Isaac were accused of being illegally in possession of 256 grams of heroin.

They denied the charged and the case is to be heard in court on 31st May 2013.

The accused are to remain in custody until May since attempts for them to be released on bail ended unsuccessful.

Elsewhere, the fight against drugs has seen the Mombasa County governor elect Ali Hassan Joho order for the demolition of the Mwembe Tayari municipality market after it was identified to be a hiding zone for both the drug dealers and users.

The market has been standing idle for the past four years after it caught fire believed to have been caused by an electric fault in 2007.
