Nyeri - A new milk processing plant in Mukurweini constituency has received a boost of KES 36 million from local CDF kitty and the Nyeri County government.
Governor Nderitu Gachagua donated KES 26 million which he said is already factored into the County Government budget for this year while area MP, Kabando wa Kabando, donated KES 10 million from the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) allocation.
The donations were made during the launch of Royal Fresh Milk brand of Wakulima Dairy Company limited at Kiriti stadium in Mukurweini town.
The dairy company has started adding value to its milk by packing it into packets and also producing other milk-related products.
It is the first dairy company in Nyeri County to launch its own distinct packet milk.
“I have been advocating for value addition of our agricultural produce and the avenue taken by Wakulima Dairy is the route to follow,” said Gachagua, who is also the chairman of Agricultural Committee at the Council of Governors.

Gachagua added that the County government was committed to improving and strengthening the dairy industry.
The chairman of the company, Muhika Mutahi said the company has created jobs to about 500 people, and exuded confidence that more indirect and direct opportunities will be created with the packet milk.
The company that was established in 1992 has a membership of about 20 000 dairy farmers.
“Our new brand of milk will be distributed to all sub-counties of Nyeri County and beyond - Laikipia, Kirinyaga, Murang’a among other counties countrywide,” said Muhika.
Recently, the company installed a cooling plant with a daily capacity of 100 000 litres of fresh milk.
Muhika added that they were intending to be collecting and marketing milk from other parts of Nyeri County.
