New Year treat for Nyeri elderly

Nyeri - Hundreds of elderly people drawn from different villages in Nyeri County ushered in the New Year with a luxurious party held at Othaya Approved grounds.
The party was organized by Joyce Wanjiku Kairu, director of Purity Elderly Care Foundation (PECF), a charitable trust that assists the elderly.
They were served with lots of food and drinks and later sung and danced to the tunes of their times.
“We rarely meet in huge numbers and have a meal together. I am feeling good because after dancing to the tunes of my youth-age,” said one elderly man from Mukurweini.

PECF director, Joyce Kairu said the party was organized and rocked with entertainment so that the senior citizens can usher in the New Year in style.
“The most energetic people welcomed the year in churches and pubs at night but the elderly could not move out at night so we decided to organize a one day-time party for them,” said Joyce.
She explained that the event was further aimed at making the elderly feel appreciated in the society.
