Nairobi - The National Authority for Campaign against Alcohol and Drug
Abuse (NACADA) has appointed Enoch Onchwari as acting Chief Executive
This follows the sacking of former boss William Okedi over the deaths of over 80 Kenyans in the illicit brew fiasco.
According to Chairman John Mututho, Okedi's team had let the country down with their negligence.
" We want to applaud the decision taken by the government yesterday
(Thursday) in respect to the removal of the officers that were not
fulfilling their duties including our CEO Mr Okedi. In that regard, I introduce our new acting CEO Enoch Onchwari. The
government took action primarily because of poor or no response in
working to avert this crisis, he said.
He insisted that there would be a thorough appraisal of the alcohol industry after the trouble that has resulted in the deaths of thousands already.
" There will be a thorough check of all alcohol producers to ensure that there is no repeat of such an incident in future, he added.
So far, the death toll has crossed 80 and is expected to rise in the coming days with more and more people taken to hospital over the current issue.
