Nairobi - The Inspector General of Police has named new police bosses in Garissa as it makes changes to the setup after the deadly Garissa University College attack.
Inspector General Joseph Boinett Thursday appointed Shadrack Maithya as the new Garissa County Commander, with Nicholas Maina named the new area OCPD.
The changes came just a day after several top police bosses were suspended over their role in the handling of the Garissa attack that saw 148 people killed by Al Shabaab militants.
The two top officers have replaced Ernest Munyi, Njenga Miiri, Musa Yego, Benjamin Ongombe, who were the suspended top officers in the County.
Other junior officers were also suspended by Interior CS Joseph Nkaissery to facilitate investigations
into their conduct.
The officers have been suspended after it emerged that
there were loopholes exploited by the terrorists that the security
apparatus in the region knew about in advance.
Garissa attackers were alleged to have spent a few nights in a Garissa
hotel before executing the attack and it is alleged that their artillery
arrived in the town in the knowledge of junior police officers.
also been alleged by junior police officers that the top ranking officers had the
intelligence at their desks but it was not acted upon.
