Nairobi - Nic Haley has been named as the new British envoy to Kenya.
Haley has been working with the British Foreign office since 2007 and has been in their Commonwealth Division for Africa since 2013.
He will replace Christian Turner whose tenure comes to an end in December.
Turner will be sent to a different diplomatic posting, the British Foreign office announced.
Haley said in a statement that he would be looking to improve ties between Kenya and the UK during his stay in the country.
" “I am delighted to have been appointed as British High Commissioner to
the Republic of Kenya. I look forward to arriving in Kenya as our
historic partnership reaches a new level, based on shared interests,
trust and mutual respect,” he said.
Turner will remain in office till then.
" Dr. Turner will remain in post until this time, after which he will be
transferring to another UK Diplomatic Service appointment," the statement added.
The UK and Kenya have been at loggerheads on several occasions in the recent past especially in dealing with travel advisories over terrorist threats posed by the Somali based Al Shabaab terror group.
The two countries though, boast strong ties and the UK is one of the largest points of investment into Kenya.
