Names of 36 Mandera dead released

03 December 2014, 19:02 Victor Tinto

Nairobi - The names of the 36 people killed in the Mandera massacre by members of the Al Shabaab terror group have been released.

The 36 were killed Tuesday morning by members of the terror group in a quarry in the area where they had set camp to sleep after their day's work.

Their bodies were transferred to the Nairobi City mortuary the same Tuesday and families were allowed to start viewing them from Wednesday.

By the time of going to press, 29 of the 36 bodies had been identified by members of family.

Families of the deceased were taken in for counselling before and after the viewing of the bodies which according to reports, were badly damaged on their faces after being shot by high octane weapons from close range.

The government has yet to state whether it has caught the dead.

Of the dead, 10 were from Nyeri County, with Mp for Nyeri town Esther Murugi present at the mortuary.
