Nakuru on high alert over terror threats

20 May 2015, 15:22 Jackson Okata

Nakuru - Nakuru County has been put on high alert following terror related threats in the town.

Speaking Tuesday in Nakuru town, Nakuru County Commissioner, Mohammed Birik said they are investigating five reported cases of terrorism.

He said all the security agencies have been mobilized to look into the cases reported from Bahati, Pipeline and Nakuru town areas.

“The County security and intelligence committee are investigating four to five cases related to terrorism in Nakuru. We have heightened the alert levels because we don’t want to take anything for granted and all our security agencies are alert to avert any incident that might arise,” said Birik.

Birik cautioned the locals of attempts by individuals to recruit the youth into the terrorist groups stating that they be arrested within no time.

“If you notice that a young person has disappeared without knowing where they went, do notify security officers,” he urged the residents.

Birik said they have mapped all the shopping malls, universities, international schools and government institutions and are strategising on implementing stringent security measures.

He urged the locals to be wary of any suspicious individuals within their surroundings and report to the police soon as possible.
