Nakuru - The much awaited airport in Nakuru town will be ready in 2020.
According to Kenya Airports Authority officials, the airport will be located some 17 kilometers from Nakuru town.
Speaking Wednesday when he visited Nakuru Governor’s office, KAA acting managing director Yatich Kangugo said they are working on the final master plan for the airport.
“We are working on a master plan for the airport and we hope the construction works will begin by early next year. The project will be complete in four years' time,” said Kangugo.

He added: “We have already done a caveat around the 500 acres. We will, in collaboration with the County planning team, secure the place.”
Apart form the airport which will have international standards, an aviation training academy will also be established.
Kangugo said the Nakuru airport could be used for international flights in case of an emergency at Kenya's major airport.
He reassured the County government that the land, purported to have been encroached on, is legally owned by the KAA.
“There are people who have been claiming they own the land, but it belongs to the government. We acquired the title deed for the 500 acres in 1996,” he said.
