The incumbent Chairman of the Finance Committee at Nakuru County Council was on Wednesday ousted for failing an integrity test as per the new constitution.
An urgent Full Council Meeting was called to discuss the conduct of Joshua Cheruiyot after majority of his colleagues complained that he had misrepresented the local authority.
The stormy meeting culminated into a censure motion moved by Lengenet Ward civic leader Joel Gatimu. Cheruiyot was ousted by 50 votes against 12 cast in his favour.
“We voted out chairman Finance committee because of failing to adhere leadership and integrity enshrined in the constitution Chapter 6,” said Clr Philip Kamau who seconded the censure motion.
After the meeting council chairman Heze Katriuki held a crisis meeting to ponder fate of his cabinet which faces new revolt from a team led by former Finance Chairman Paul Chebor.
“This is a small issue which we hope to restore our house in order,” said Kariuki when contacted for comment. Cheruiyot was also available for comment.
