Nakumatt to reopen Westgate Hypermarket next week

10 July 2015, 14:02 Robert Chepkwony

Nairobi - The Westgate Shopping Mall anchor tenant, Nakumatt Holdings, has announced plans to resume operations at the shopping complex by the end of next week.

The official opening of Nakumatt Westgate, scheduled for Saturday July 18 follows the recent hosting of an inter-faith prayer service by the Westgate Shopping Mall developers ahead of the mall’s official re-opening.

Speaking when he confirmed the scheduled opening, Nakumatt Holdings Managing Director, Atul Shah said plans are now in high gear to re-open doors to the iconic retail store and shopping mall.

The opening of Nakumatt Westgate will also coincide with the Westgate Shopping Mall’s official reopening, with other key tenants such as ArtCafé, Ashleys Beauty Centre among others also set to resume their operations.

The reopening of Nakumatt will be preceded by a series of stakeholder events next week, Shah noted, which will also mark a major milestone for the country’s former Westgate Shopping Mall tenants who have already redesigned their stores.

“At Nakumatt Holdings, we are preparing for the opening and look forward to welcoming our loyal customers to come and enjoy a new in-store layout, wide stock variety and fresh ambiance,” Shah said.

Due to some internal adjustments on the main Mall building and the former Nakumatt shop floor space, Nakumatt Westgate will now cover more than 80 000 square feet on multiple floors. The revamped supermarket will also feature a full-fledged Nakumatt Select Concept store to showcase its range of private brand household products.

During the inter-faith prayers last May, Westgate Mall Managing Director, Alex Trachtenberg confirmed that tenants who had taken up space at the mall will soon be moving in to commence with their respective stores outfitting ahead of the reopening.

Many of the tenants have since then progressed well with their store outfitting including ArtCafé Restaurant, which is also set to open two outlets.
