Nairobi - Attempts to bomb a Nairobi mall were a hoax and the suspects are in custody, Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinett has said.
The three suspects had attempted to forcefully enter the Garden City Mall in Nairobi along Thika Road and on further inspection, were found with what was alleged to be an Improvised Explosive Device IED.
But according to Boinett, the suspects did not have any explosve and only had a number of mobile phones and several wires to show of and believes that they were on a scare tactic.
" It was a nothing show. They were trying to scare Kenyans and we have taken them into custody," he said Wednesday.
The two were arrested while trying to secure entry into the mall.
Kasarani area CID boss Valerie Obore confirmed the incident Tuesday.
" We were tipped off of a certain threat which was neutralized and the Mall is safe," she told News24.
A description of the suspects was not yet given by police.
The mall was evacuated as a result.
