Nairobi - 4 people died in the floods that hit Nairobi earlier this week, police have confirmed.
The four were killed in the Eastlands area of Nairobi by the rising waters that engulfed the city after yet another night of heavy rain in the Capital.
Police spokesperson Zipporah Mboroki said Thursday that the four had died of the effects of the floods, with three of them casualties taking place in Kayole.
" A woman and
her three-year-old son were swept away and their bodies retrieved
downstream, while the body of a man was also found at the same spot Wednesday morning," Mboroki said.
The other casualty took place in Ruaraka area, where an 8 year boy was killed when floods brought down the walls of the house he lived in.
" David Karanja, was in the house when water
flooded the house, sweeping him and some household items away," Mboroki added of the matter.
Mboroki asked City residents to be careful of the raging waters to prevent more deaths.
The floods have been blamed on the poor drainage system in the city, which the Nairobi County Government has said it will do its best to ensure is in better condition in future.
