Busia - NACADA has unearthed a new syndicate of drug traffickers.
Speaking in Amagoro, the Authority Chief Executive Officer, William Okedi revealed on Sunday that the barons now use the Southern and Arabian Peninsula on Indian Ocean through Kenya and Tanzania.
They drop the cargo in the high seas before ferrying them to Tanzania through Lungalunga and Mombasa to Nairobi by road to West and South Africa before they find their way into Europe.
Okedi said the barons prefer Entebbe airport in Uganda as a conduit point since Uganda has ‘very weak laws’ which fine perpetrators only 40 UD dollars which is peanuts to them.
“Law enforcers and other government agencies need to be extra vigilant and collaborate with County and national governments to apprehend the barons.

"We are spearheading the formation of County inter agency committees in the 47 counties to change law enforcement and promote public participation and awareness,” he said.
Dr Okedi said the media has roles to play by highlighting key challenges facing Kenyans on matters of alcohol and drug abuse.
“The role of preventing alcohol, education and drug message is in the hands of County Governments. Ours is to support them meet their goals.
“We shall support County governments in availing recreational facilities for the youth and in areas of culture and sports," Okedi said.
He also warned bar owners against selling alcohol to underage children saying they will have themselves to blame
