Nairobi - Hundreds of youths and women working under the National Youth Service (NYS) empowerment program in Tetu, Nyeri County have held anti-Raila demonstrations at Wamagana Township.
They were showing and drumming support to Cabinet Secretary Ann Waiguru who has been accused by opposition leader, Raila Odinga, of been corrupt.
The group dubbed Tetu Cohorts said Waiguru was been fought because of transforming lives of young people.
“We support Waiguru and we fully stand behind her. The project is doing very well contrary to what politicians are saying,” said a youth leader Wambugu Ngatia.
Ngatia added that he has been able to sustain his family without struggling, adding that the Cord leader should stop interfering with the program.
He was echoed by Maendeleo ya Wanawake chairperson, Mary Muthami who said Waiguru was a whistleblower of corrupt deals in government who deserve protection.
Muthami asked the CS not to step down and instead concentrate on expanding the NYS program to cover more youths.
The protesters were holding placards and twigs while singing slogans to condemn the opposition leader.
However, Tetu Sub-County Deputy County Commissioner, Herman Shambi asked them to be notifying authorities when holding demonstrations in order to get protection for business owners whose activities were paralyzed.
