NGO peace initiative in West Pokot

Sikom, a West Pokot based non-government organization has teamed up with the media and police to roll out peace sensitization crusades in Pokot County.
During one day forum funded by the Peacenet and Saveworld that brought together various peace actors in the county, the NGO resolved to work closely with the media and police to enhance peace in the region.
The NGO’s director Mr. Joseph Akuale noted that media and police played a great role in enhancing peace in the society and their inclusion would help discriminate positive information to the community.
“There is urgent need for the media as an effective tool of disseminating information and police to work together and enhance peace,’’ noted Akaule during the forum at Horizon guest Hotel in Kapenguria.
The event themed ‘towards secure and peaceful elections’ participants urged the media to be in the fore front in peace advocacy through positive reporting.
Renson Apakamoi emphasized the need for the media to enlighten the public on various issues affecting the society and help the electorates to know the performances of their elected leaders.
The forum also challenged the media to focus on positive development achieved by the Pokot pastoralists to attract investments in the region.
